All members and adherents of St Michael’s received a letter in early February outlining the work of LYPP. This contained a request to consider financial support and an invitation to learn more about the work of LYPP at an evening on 25 February.

On behalf of the Project, may I thank those of you who made came out to find out more about the varied work of LYPP. It was good to meet you. A number of you, not able to attend, took time to write in support of those involved in the Project. This along with financial commitments people have made has been a real encouragement to the team. Thank you.

As we discussed during the evening, LYPP is basically about building relationships with young people, supporting them when life is going well, and having an established relationship so they know where to come when it is not. The value of the project is recognised by our local community, and it was great to have the support of local councillors and police at the meeting speaking about the positive impact of this initiative borne out of the Linlithgow churches. Suzi Farrant spoke of the opportunity to provide pastoral support to the young people, strengthening the link to the churches.

We want to continue to do this, and more. We have loads of ideas on how we can improve our community, increasing the amount of time we are on the street, working with more young people.

Running the Project has a financial cost: about £90,000 a year. We have already a very significant amount of this committed over the next three years, but are looking to build our local supporter base to complement other funding streams. We set a target of raising £1000 per month, through 100 people committing £10 per month (or perhaps 10 committing £100 per month – we’re flexible!). This, with gift aid reclamation would raise approximately £15,000 income per annum for the project.

A result of the response to our letter to date, we are almost one third of the way there – great news, but we still have some way to go to reach our target. We ask you to consider supporting us by completing a Partnership Programme leaflet and committing to give a small amount regularly. Further copies of these will be at the rear of the church for the next few weeks.

If you would like any further information please call the LYPP office on 01506 202610, or email us at mail@lypp.org.uk.

Thank you again for your support.

Paul  Bayton,  Director.
On behalf of the staff and directors of LYPP.
